Aleena leads analysis for political, operational and security developments in Pakistan and Afghanistan. She writes daily analysis on political, security, operational and regulatory risks for Control Risks’ online platform, CORE, provides bespoke analysis to clients across sectors, and executes bespoke consulting projects for clients with specific interests in a range of sectors across the region.

Aleena leads analysis for political, operational and security developments in Pakistan and Afghanistan. She writes daily analysis on political, security, operational and regulatory risks for Control Risks’ online platform, CORE, provides bespoke analysis to clients across sectors, and executes bespoke consulting projects for clients with specific interests in a range of sectors across the region.


Recent examples of Aleena’s work include:
  • Political, contract and reputational risk assessment for a foreign client engaged in Pakistan’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector. This included an assessment of ongoing political developments on the LNG’s sectors regulatory environment. 
  • A security threat and political risk analysis of several northern provinces in Afghanistan for a foreign client engaged in the oil and gas sector. This included an assessment of forthcoming general elections on security dynamics in the province. 
  • A security threat and political analysis assessment of several provinces in Pakistan for a foreign state-owned enterprise seeking to enter the hydrocarbons sector in Pakistan. 
  • A security and operational risk assessment for an international events organiser seeking to enter the entertainment sector in Pakistan.


Aleena graduated with cum laude and departmental honours from Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California , with a bachelor’s degree in government. She has been awarded numerous research and journalism fellowships to carry out research on South Asia and has lived in Lahore, Pakistan. She has also completed internships with Washington DC-based think tank the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the Honolulu-based think tank East-West Center and the Lahore-based think tank the Institute of Development and Economic Alternatives. Aleena is a native English and Urdu/Hindi speaker. She has been interviewed by Bloomberg, BBC International, Interfax Global Energy, amongst others.
