The East Asia Summit (EAS) in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) will focus on regional cooperation and strategic issues. Members include ten ASEAN member states as well as Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Japan, South Korea, the US and Russia.

The 17th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit will convene in Bali (Indonesia). The G20 comprises 19 countries and the EU. The summit will focus on matters including the Ukraine crisis, the global economy as well as equitable COVID-19 vaccine access.

The choice of Qatar as host nation for the men’s soccer (football) tournament has proved controversial, and multiple national teams and other stakeholders have raised concerns about the country’s human rights record, particularly around labour rights. Activist groups will continue to urge businesses associated with the competition to raise concerns, and engage in a socially responsible way.

15th meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP15) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity

The UN will hold part 2 of COP15 in Montreal (Canada) focusing on efforts to reverse damage to ecosystems will continue to increase, though this will be a slow process. The event has been postponed four times due to COVID-19. Companies across a range of sectors – but particularly agriculture, fisheries, forestry, extractives and high-polluting industrial activities – are likely to come under increasing political, regulatory and civil society pressure to demonstrate strengthened sustainability targets.

US-Africa Leaders’ Summit

The summit will focus on new economic engagement between the US and African countries, promote human rights and democracy, regional security, food insecurity and climate change. This comes after the US in 2022 updated its policy on the region to engage beyond extremist threats.

The 43rd annual summit of GCC leaders is due to be held in mid-December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The dates of the summit are likely to be confirmed during November. The annual gathering is likely to affirm the importance of cooperation and coordination on regional security initiatives, climate change and pandemic prevention in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
25 Feb 2023 General Election Nigeria
Nigeria will hold general elections on 25 February 2023 and gubernatorial elections on 11 March 2023. The campaign period formally began on 28 September 2022. Incidents of political violence are likely to increase after the campaign period begins and candidates begin to organise rallies. Meanwhile, decision-making is likely to slow as attention increasingly turns towards the elections.
19-23 May 2023 G7 Summit Global Global
The G7 summit will take place in Hiroshima (Japan). 
24 Jun 2023 General Election Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone will hold general elections on 24 June 2023. Politicking is likely to persist in the coming months. Incumbent Julius Maada Bio is currently the favourite to secure re-election.
